Please bear in mind that even with cold and digestive problems that often seem unproblematic, an infant needs medical help more quickly than a schoolchild. In addition, the further procedure also depends on the age and general condition of the child.

Children's ordinations on weekends and holidays

Panel Doctors
Since 5 January 2019, children's ordinations have been open in Vienna on all weekends and public holidays. You can find the doctor's offices on duty and their opening hours here: www.aekwien.at/kinder and here: Plakat Kinderordinationen.

Ambulance

Does your child have acute respiratory distress or has it suddenly fainted as well as in case of burnsinjuries oder poisoning call the Vienna Ambulance immediately (Tel. 144).

Signs of disease

For all signs of disease such as

  • only fever, but the child is still happy and has an appetite,
  • Signs of a cold, such as cough (without breathlessness) and runny nose,
  • pulpy stool

you can usually wait until the next ordination day.

In case of deterioration or non-improvement

... you should contact the medical radio service. It is available at Tel. 141 and is staffed during the night hours between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., on weekends from Friday, 7 p.m., to Monday, 7 a.m., and all day on public holidays.

Children's outpatient clinics

  • in the case of prolonged watery diarrhoea,
  • repeated vomiting,
  • high fever with shortness of breath (or whistling breathing sound)

In the outpatient rooms of the Children's Hospital of Vienna General Hospital, Währinger Gürtel 18-20, 1090 Vienna, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays 10.00 am - 06.00 pm. 

Health counselling
If you have any unclear health problems, you can also contact the health advice line on the number 1450 .

Toothache
If your child has a toothache, please call Tel. 512 20 78. There you can get information about dentists on duty on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays (9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.).

Childcare at home
Childcare at Home (by Sozial Global) supports working parents whose child is ill and who cannot take over the care of the ill child themselves.
